We all understand that building links is one of the things that must be done. Since Google looks at the links which point to your content critically, it is also vitally important that each marketer focuses on learning solid techniques for building the highest quality links possible. Unfortunately, it also seems like many of us fall into a routine with our link building efforts. If this is your situation, there are a number of things that can be done to get you out of your article writing and submission rut or forum commenting wall.
Technical Link Building Ideas
If you have simply run out of ideas for your link building campaigns, consider doing some research. Taking a look at the link profiles of your competition can be very instructive. Using tools such as Majestic SEO and Open Site Explorer can be great methods of going about this.
Building tiered links can also be a great strategy. Take some of your already existing links and build links to them. This actually helps to strengthen the impact of your first tier, or primary, links and should get you a bit more search engine juice.
Focus on some deep linking. Many marketers only appear to be concerned with linking to the first page or two of their sites. Instead, try focusing on building at least a few links to pages that are deeper into your site. This can help to increase the chances of having even more of your pages and posts rank well in the search engines.
Content Marketing Ideas
Everyone dreams of having content that goes viral. But instead of just dreaming about this, why not actually take a critical look at content that actually has gone viral? Try to break it down and isolate the factors that made it go viral. Then apply these lessons and factors to your own campaigns, in an effort to help increase the number of inbound links that you earn.
Consider repurposing your content. Take something that you have published and then turn it into multiple formats. For example, consider taking your article and turning it into a pdf file and then maybe adapt it into a video or an audio interview. Not only are these great ways to increase audience engagement, but it also makes it much easier to continue developing content.
On Site Techniques
One of the first things you need to do is fixing and cleaning up your internal links. Make sure that every post or page you have has a link to at least one other page on your site. It only makes sense to take care of putting your own house in order before attempting additional linking strategies.
Look for 404 pages within your own site. Obviously, you never want a visitor to use an inbound link which points to a page that is no longer on your site. To avoid this, you need to discover links that are pointing to non-existent pages and then use some redirects to send visitors to a current (and related) page.
Curating content can also be a great way to build links. This simply involves finding other valuable content and posting it on your site, along with your thoughts or explanations. Obviously, make sure to give credit to the original source. If you do this properly, it will be an excellent way to provide excellent content for your visitors as well as garnering a lot of inbound links.
Any marketer stuck in a link building rut would be well advised to try these ideas. Even just mastering a few of them can help keep your site moving forward, developing new links and rising up through the search engine rankings while adding some great content for your visitors.
If you're looking for a short-cut, you might want to consider the trackback collector software for automatically going out and getting backlinks for you.
